The thing that gets me about the whole James Charles thing is that increasingly it’s coming off more like “straight rights!” Rather than about someone exhibiting extremely predatory behavior. Even when Tati was going over what happened at her birthday dinner and how James was talking in a very sexual manner she says “I told him the waiter was straight” AS IF the waiters sexuality had anything to do with not wanting to be verbally sexually harassed! By anyone! Ever! I don’t understand why everyone is like STRAIGHT BOYS STRAIGHT BOYS when it should just be about James Charles making unwanted sexual advances and preying on people using money and power.
If you’re not American, don’t make jokes about our mass shootings or our healthcare system. These are things that actually affect people, that are literally killing us and terrifying the people who are still alive. They are not your tragedies to make light of.
If you’re British, Canadian, Spanish (as in from Spain), or Australian, don’t make jokes about how “at least we didn’t massacre our natives lmao” because guess fucking what? You did. Australia and Canada are on-par with the US in terms of how they have treated and are still treating their indigenous peoples. Britain and Spain both violently colonized countless countries and annihilated the indigenous peoples of those countries. Your countries’ sins are just as horrific and bloody as the United States’.

as a self-appointed expert on Hozier, i would say that date is possibly accurate. Â
many of Hozierâs songs reference being buried in the earth (In a Week, Work Song), and some are directly inspired by bog bodies (Like Real People Do, Run). two of the most famous Irish bog bodies, Old Croghan Man and Clonycavan Man, are dated between 392 and 175 BCE, and both are speculated to have been kings ritually sacrificed to the goddess of the land. in Take Me to Church, Hozier demonstrates a willingness to offer sacrifices to a goddess, and in Foreignerâs God, he thinks fondly upon the image of a pre-Christian Ireland (âwhen the land was God-less and freeâ). as well, Old Croghan Man is estimated to have been about 6â˛6, and Hozier is about 6â˛5.Â
the only possible flaw in this theory is that in a Facebook Q&A (here at 5:28), Hozier says that he is over 3000 years old. 400 BCE only puts him at ~2400. it could be that after so many years heâs lost track of how many thousands, but another possibility is that he is more contemporaneous with an older bog body, the Cashel Man, also presumed to be a sacrificed king. that would put him closer to 4000 than 3000, but again, we could forgive an immortal for getting his millenia wrong.
in any case,
it seems likely to me that Hozier is an ancient Irish king who was ritually sacrificed to the old gods, but somehow returned (possibly through intervention by said old gods) to give us music subtly hinting at his experiences.

Having sex with someone actually is a big deal and involves a ton of vulnerability and I think it’s extremely troubling and gross and unhealthy and actually exceptionally dangerous that we pretend otherwise and encourage people to “be mature” by compartmentalizing/completely eliminating their deeper human emotions from their sexuality and that any other view is dismissed as prudish and invalid and unenlightened and childish and restrictive. I can’t think about this too much because it makes me rage but I hate how much porn and capitalism have destroyed how we understand and experience sexuality and intimate connections with one another so much.
